New Zealand Wildlife

It seemed like everyday in New Zealand we saw some cool new birds...or at the very least heard them every morning for our wake-up call. Our favorite was a bird that literally sounded like a laser gun. We never actually laid our eyes on him though. He was just our alarm clock--believe it or not, a very pleasant one  even though he sounded like a laser. We were able to snap some photos of a few of our feathered friends along the way.

And of course, the sheep. Sheep, sheep, sheep and more sheep!! Every where you look there are an abundance of sheep. We were there in the spring so we got our fill of adorable babies. We even saw a little black lamb in a field of white ones, but I wasn't quick enough with the camera to get a photo.

On the cruise in the Doubtful Sound we spotted some rare Dolphins racing alongside our boat. And penguins too. I couldn't snap the Dolphins--they were just too fast, but I did get one shot of the penguins swimming.

These are a few of my favorites:

Picture 1: A regal looking sheep just outside of Blenheim, in wine country.

Picture 2: A little table side visitor in Abel Tasman National Park.

Picture 3: A very angry and hissing attack crab at low-tide in Abel Tasman. The little guy was so camouflaged that Jeremy nearly stepped on him. His little pinchers were in full defense mode.

Picture 4: A Swamp Hen in Abel Tasman.

Picture 5: I don't know what this bird is, but he was HUGE and his colors were absolutely beautiful. He was also in Abel Tasman.

Picture 6: Penguins in the Doubtful Sound!
