Day 11, Doubtful Sound and Queenstown

The ship's captain gave an early morning wake up call urging us to get up and enjoy our morning on the Sound before leaving. We had a big breakfast and drank coffee on the deck. It was cold, but the scenery was worth it. The water was eerily still. The fog hung low in the valleys and of course, there were rainbows.

Late in the morning everyone was asked to gather on the deck. They wanted us to experience the stillness of the Doubtful Sound. They turned off the engine and asked everyone to refrain from talking or taking pictures. It was a pretty amazing feeling to sit in absolute quiet with 60+ other people in such a magnificent location. The pictures don't convey the magnitude. They don't capture the beauty. It was a beautiful moment.

When we got back to shore we took the bus to the boat to the bus back to The Croft where we had left our car. We said goodbye to Jane and headed to our next destination--Queenstown.

The rest of the afternoon was pretty lazy. It's amazing how staring at beauty for so long can be exhausting. We checked into our lodge, walked around town and through the Queenstown Gardens, drank beer outside at a pub by the water and had dinner at a restaurant called The Boardwalk.
