Day 15, The Coromandel Peninsula

Since the Bay of Islands wasn't exactly what we were looking for we decided to leave and head for the Coromandel Peninsula. We were in search of a  great camp spot right on the beach. We also wanted to see the famed Hot Water Beach where you can dig your own hot tub in the sand at low tide. So, we drove back to Auckland and headed North East for a couple hours.

Along the way we stopped roadside to make brie, tomato and roasted asparagus sandwiches. They were wonderful! We also made a quick detour to scope out Hot Water Beach. It wasn't low tide so we made plans to come back at the next low tide. It's a beautiful beach regardless and the surf break had Jeremy salivating.

We managed to stumble upon a great Holiday Park in the little beachside town of Haihe. And we even lucked out with a private spot overlooking the beach. It was perfect!

We walked to the store to get some more provisions and enjoyed the most spectacular weather and setting sun. We found some rope swings above the sand dunes and played on those, took pictures of amazing light and rainbows and the sunset.

For dinner we made yummy pasta with salad.
