After checking out of our hotel we crossed the harbor to spend our last day in Auckland. We started out with breakfast at Tascos in Vulcan Alley and then wandered around downtown until we stumbled upon the Sky Tower. We figured we had to do the touristy thing and go to the top. And like all things tall in New Zealand they'll let you jump off of it. Thankfully, neither Jeremy or myself had any urges to do so. But we did get to watch a woman hurl herself down the side of the building. The jump is probably almost as terrifying for the spectators because after the initial jump they dangle the jumper in front of the observation deck for a few moments before the final drop--just so you can stare at their terrified face. I got nauseous just watching.
The 360 degree views were lovely and they even have glass floors at the outer most edge...just to try and freak you out a little bit more.
The television in the bar at the tip top was showing the first inning of game five of the World Series so we had a glass of wine and watched figuring it was a pretty good, if not unusual spot to watch baseball. Unfortunately for me, even the ambiance couldn't make the game any more exciting. But Jeremy and one other lone American thought it was interesting enough to quit looking out the window for a little bit.
After the Sky Tower visit we spent the afternoon souvenir shopping and wandering around the harbor. We hit up a noodle house on Vulcan Alley again before heading off to the airport.
