After Jeremy and I secured the location for our ceremony and reception our parents were anxious to visit. Since we had the luxury of a long engagement I wanted to visit as close to one year away as possible and I wanted to be at both locations at the approximate time of our actual ceremony and reception that would be happening one year later. This was very important to me because...
(ALERT, ALERT!! Prepare for totally anal reasoning!!)
I wanted to see what the lighting was like at that time of day and that time of year.
Maybe it was years of working in the photography business and working with professional photographers, but I wanted to ensure that the lighting would be good and more importantly I wanted to figure out if all our guests would be blinded by the setting sun. (Look, I'm anal and conscientious!)
The plan was to visit the ceremony site and then have dinner at the Lodge.
Walking out to the winery ruins with my Mom, Jeremy's parents, his brother, Josh and my Maid of Honor, Shannon was a little nerve wracking. I wanted everyone to love it as much as we did...or at least see the potential for why we loved it.
We spent an hour walking around, measuring, and brainstorming before we settled at a picnic table above the ruins. We sat down for an appetizer picnic of wine and cheese. I remember at one point watching Shannon walk off. Shortly thereafter our conversation was interrupted with the sound of her voice rising above the ruin walls. I ran over to look over the edge and found her standing in the corner singing acapella. If we didn't know she was going to sing at our wedding before, we definitely knew then.
For dinner we sat outside at the Wolf Restaurant and shared an amazing meal. Shannon earned her Maid of Honor badge by dutifully spying on the wedding reception that was happening on the same creek side patio where we would have ours. We ordered too many items--soup, salads, and several entrees and shared everything while Shannon reported play-by-play descriptions of the event out back--good lighting, boring decorations, etc.
We drank wine, laughed, and planned for the big event that was only 364 days away. :)
