Hard to believe that Dylan is 11 months today! Where, oh where does the time go?! For a baby that we thought would be riding a motorcycle by this time he is still not walking. This is only surprising because he was rolling over at 2 weeks, is generally ginormous, extremely physically active and well, I hate to draw comparisons, but his brother was walking at 9.5 months and Dylan is the second child. Aren't second kids supposed to walk and talk earlier?! So much for the second kid theories.
Although we've recently made great strides Dylan is not the sleeper or dare I say, easy baby that Noah was. Just this past month he finally moved to his crib in the room with big brother. But, he doesn't sleep through the night yet! He's still waking at least 2x a night. Obviously, this is wearing on us, but we have to believe there is an end in sight!! He does take naps though--2 a day.
He's a super fast crawler and likes to go everywhere and get into anything. His favorite spots to hang out are by the electrical outlet in the dining room and by the drawers in the kitchen. His particular favorite drawer is the only one with a child lock. Of course, he's figured out how to open it. And of course it's the one with all the cheese knives and spreaders. When he crawls hastily towards either of these death traps he looks over his shoulder and laughs in defiance as we call out, "No, no, no!" It's as if he thinks we are cheering him on, "Go, go, go!". In general, he seems to have a sixth sense for anything we don't want him to touch or get into. So, obviously he also loves stairs.
Dylan's other loves:
- Baths. Baths are a happy joy. He likes his bucket tub or bathing with Noah.
- Food. It is shocking how much he can eat. Shocking.
- Dogs. Dogs are cool and will illicit a cute little barking sound from him or even a growl. His entire body will tense up in excitement when he sees them. He'll even do this when he sees them in a book.
- Noah. Nobody can make him laugh like Noah. Noah is the coolest, funniest person ever.
Recent accomplishments include
- Taking steps. It's been a few weeks, but he's been taking a few steps at a time. Still no walking though. I just don't think he's all that motivated given how fast he can crawl.
- Clapping. He's quite the motivational clapper. When he starts he looks at you in anticipation. Surely this means that you'll sing "Patty Cake" with him?
- Getting his own food. This one is actually quite helpful. When Dylan is hungry he'll get himself to the pantry, open the door, and grab one of his HappyTot squeeze meals and hold it up so you will open it for him.
