Engagement Ring

When Jeremy proposed he gave me a simple gold band with a diamond. I liked the idea of getting a ring that he had picked out for me, but having a say in something that I was going to wear forever seemed more logical to me. He told me immediately after proposing that this ring he was presenting to me was just a "placeholder". The diamond was mine, but we needed to find a new setting. We went shopping that day.

The diamond came from his Grandmother, on his Mom's side. When she died Jeremy's Mom, Tobey, got some of her jewelry so she took 3 diamonds of similar size and put them in one ring. Her plan was to give each of her 3 sons their choice of a diamond when they were ready to take the plunge. Jeremy got first pick.

Finding a setting was pretty easy because I wanted something old or at the very least vintage looking. Our friend Jen recommended we check out a jewlery store in Berkeley called 24 karats. I found my ring immediately--a platinum reproduction of a vintage piece--the perfect mix of old and new. But, just to be sure I went home to think about it for a night. :)
